Are you at risk of periodontal disease?

by admin — Categories: Dental Care, Health — Tags: , No Comments

With really bad symptoms that could lead to even worse things, periodontal disease is one thing you’d never want. But even so, it has been known to affect a large chunk of people in the whole population and even worse, not many people are knowledgeable about its symptoms and the methods to cure it. You may think you don’t have it but let me help you determine whether you’re in danger of gum disease and a few other warnings you may want to know about it.

Periodontal disease isn’t something that suddenly pops out and suddenly, you already have it. It’s an accumulation of certain issues affecting your gums, and left untreated. The first stage of gum disease is called gingivitis, and this is when the disease often goes unnoticed. The symptoms are very mild and may take the intention for one to be able to determine its presence. The symptoms you will be looking for are bleeding and swollen gums. You may also notice a discoloration of the gums, sometimes a painful sensation when touching them and also a heightened sensitivity against hot or cold drinks.

These are just gingivitis; the next stage is periodontitis – this is wherein the initial symptoms worsen, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it can go unnoticed. Chronic bad breath, loose teeth, gums and tooth abscess are just some of the symptoms you’ll be looking for. The infection in this stage is much more severe and if not treated immediately, could lead to more serious infections. If you’re unsure on what to do here, you may consult your dentist for methods on how to treat periodontal disease.

If you don’t experience these symptoms, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re safe from gum diseases. In fact, more than half of the population are at risk of getting gum diseases and you may just be one of that unlucky bunch. If you’re in to smoking, or you may be doing other habits that put stress on your gums, such as grinding your teeth, you may want to try avoiding those as it could lead to gum diseases as well.

If you experience gum disease or you think you are at risk, there should be no reason to be afraid as with proper tooth brushing, eating the right food and using the right medicine for periodontal disease, you should be free of the risks of having your condition worsen in no time.
